Crunchy. Yummy. Easy.
Honestly, what else do you even want from a cracker? These are made with just water, oil, salt, and seeds—that’s it. No mystery ingredients, no weird powders, no trip to a specialty store where everything smells like kombucha. The prep takes almost zero effort, and in under an hour you’ve got the crunchiest, most addictive snack.
Equipment
Ingredients
- Avocado or any other neutral oil
- Flaky salt – I like to use flavored salt
- 1 cup Flax or chia seeds (non-negotiable—these are the “glue”)
- 1 cup Pumpkin, hemp hearts, sunflower seeds (my fave combo, but you do you)
Instructions
- Lightly oil a baking sheet, then line it with parchment. Add another thin swipe of oil on top.
- In a bowl, add 1 cup flax seeds, chia seeds, or a mix.
- Pour in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until it looks like egg whites (weird, I know, but trust the process).
- Add 1 cup of your favorite seed mix + 1 teaspoon salt. Stir.
- Let it soak for 10–20 minutes while you preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Spread the mixture in a very thin layer on the baking sheet (about 1½ pans worth). Sprinkle with more salt.
- Bake for 40 minutes until crispy and golden. (keep an eye on them every oven is different) it also depends on how thin of a layer you made
- Hit it with another pinch of salt, break into pieces, and try not to eat the whole batch at once.
NOTES
- You can totally use a silicone baking mat here—no need to oil underneath it, just brush a little oil on top! Easy-peasy.
- Also, hemp hearts? I could not find them anywhere at the store. Ended up ordering them online like a modern-day hunter-gatherer.”.
